How to apply
Applicants to UBC School of Music graduate degree programs must successfully meet the admission requirements of both UBC’s Faculty of Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies (G+PS) and the School of Music.
Step One: Apply online
Deadline: Dec. 1, 2016. Applications for the M.Mus. in Conducting are due Dec. 15. Late applicants, please contact email@example.com.
To apply to UBC School of Music's graduate programs, you must apply to the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. Complete the online application form while also making sure to check out the application requirements for the program you're applying to.
Step Two: Double-check the specific application requirements for your program
Certain graduate degrees have fairly detailed application requirements. A degree-by-degree breakdown is available here.
Step Three: Audition
Live auditions are scheduled for January 14 & 15, 2017. However, due to the possibility of faculty scheduling issues, do NOT make long-distance travel plans before receiving a confirmed, individual audition date and time from UBC Music.
If you're applying to a Performance program, you must audition as part of your application. In-person auditions are strongly encouraged, and provides you with an opportunity to meet with School of Music faculty. However, if you live outside of the Greater Vancouver Area, you may instead audition by video.
1. In-Person Audition
In-person auditions are thirty minutes long and will take place on January 14-15, 2017. Conducting auditions will take place at a later date, by invitation only. After the application fee has been paid, you must schedule your audition by contacting the Graduate Admissions Assistant at firstname.lastname@example.org. The School of Music supplies a pianist for vocalists only; however, any instrumentalist or vocalist may bring their own pianist or hire a School of Music pianist.
2. Video Audition: Due January 11, 2017
You may submit high-quality video recordings of your audition selections, preferably recorded by a professional technician. The recording of each individual selection (piece, movement, or song) must be an unedited performance that has been recorded within the past 12 months. Each recorded selection must not be edited or manipulated in any way, and you must submit a statement certifying the integrity of each recording. Email email@example.com for instructions on how to upload a video audition.
